A Postmodern Advertisement
Please have a look at the advertisement in which a detective solves the case with a different way. First we will look at the explanation of the term postmodernism and then discuss the traits in this advertisement.
"Postmodernism is a philosophical movement evolved in reaction to modernism, the tendency in contemporary culture to accept only objective truth and to be inherently suspicious towards global cultural narrative or meta-narrative. Postmodernist thought is an intentional departure from the previously dominant modernist approaches. The term "postmodernism" comes from its critique of the "modernist" scientific mentality of objectivity and the progress associated with the Enlightenment".-Wikipedia.
The advertisement I have shared has postmodernist traits but how? First of all let's recall all the detective stores you have read so far. In each story we see that the detective solves the mystery in an ascending order. Here, also the detective goes with the same traditional way. He asks everyone in the family and points towards us saying that who is the culprit? Who will tell us about the murderer, the person himself? Then of a sudden the murdered person comes alive and fingers at the gardener who has committed the crime.
This twist in the narration is the characteristic of postmodernism where modernist situation is told in an unbelievable way. For example take stories of Sherlock Holmes. Imagine that every time Holmes tries to solve the mystery but the murdered person tells who the murderer is. Those were typical modernist situations as like real life where everything comes after one another. If that would have happen then Holmes have to get retirement then there will be no detective stories.
The other characteristic of postmodernism is presentation of the situation in hilarious manner. Here, also we laugh at the murdered person who awakes and tells us who the murderer is. He saves the detective's time and money.
Lastly, forget the brand and the person who is endorsing it.
